Vidya Balan and Kalki Koechlin redefining role of a glamour doll in Bollywood: Huma Qureshi

Actor Huma Qureshi, who garnered positive response for her role in Gangs Of Wasseypur, says things are changing and actors like Vidya Balan and Kalki Koechlin are refining the quintessential role of a glamour doll in the showbiz

“I think that Bollywood is changing very, very fast. Today look at what Vidya has done – she has changed things for women. Be it me, Konkona (Sen Sharma), or Kalki – we all are redefining the quintessential role of a glamour doll in Bollywood… Thanks to many directors and writers who are coming up with fantastic story and ideas.”

Post Gangs of Wasseypur, Huma has been described as an unconventional actor who wowed everyone with her work in the gritty celluloid saga of coal mafia. She has teamed up with Kalki and Konkona in Ek Thi Daayan, which is coming out next Friday. Directed by Kannan Iyer, the forthcoming supernatural thriller also features Emraan Hashmi and it has been co-produced by Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj.

Huma doesn’t have a problem being called pretty, but adds they really have to work hard other than looking good. “I have been working hard like insane. As an actor, people think it’s all about being glamorous, looking pretty and dressing up, but there’s a lot of hard work as well. I am working 14 to 16 hours a day and that is a lot of work. But it’s fun. I am loving it. I am enjoying it,” said Huma who was born and brought up in Delhi and comes from a completely non-filmi background.

“Nine months ago I was like a complete new person, I didn’t know anything. Although there have been no changes on personal level, work has increased, media attention has increased and I am really enjoying it. At the end of the day, what matters is your work. I am very excited with the kind of filmmakers I am working with,” said the 26-year-old actor.

After Gangs of Wasseypur, Kashyap repeated her in Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, while Bhardwaj is working with her again in Dedh Ishqiya post Ek Thi Daayan. “I am glad, all the filmmakers I am working with chose to repeat me,” she said.
