The Omkara director ropes in three assistants of his late friend Sameer Chanda for his upcoming projects, to pay homage to his dead friend
Vishal Bhardwaj has worked with his close friend late Sameer Chanda on films like Omkara, Makdee and Kaminey. Chanda has passed away, but Vishal decided to pay homage to him by incorporating Chanda’s three art assistants, Subrato Chakravarthy, Punit Grover and Amit Ray into his team.
In fact, the trio will be soon be working in Bhardwaj’s forthcoming releases Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola starring Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma, as well as Ek Thi Daayan featuring Emraan Hashmi and Kalki Koechlin.
“I have been an assistant with Sameer dada ever since a film called Indian many years ago and so has been Amit. Punita joined us during Rang De Basanti. I learned more about Vishal when I did Omkara and I was even promoted to being Chanda’s associate. After that, I did many films with him,” said Chakravarthy.
We think it was gracious of Vishal to appoint his friend’s assistants and give them a chance to prove their mettle, instead of hiring some other experienced art director. Dosti ho, to aisi!
