Here’s how the 1981 comedy found its way back to the theatres
As the original Chashme Buddoor hits the screens tomorrow (alongside David Dhawan’s new age version Chashme Baddoor, ofcourse), a whole new generation will get a chance to discover this cult comedy.
Sai Paranjpye’s 1981 movie – starring Farooq Shaikh, Ravi Baswani, Rakesh Bedi and Deepti Naval – has been digitally restored and film buffs will now get to see the re-mastered version on the big screen. The movie has been brought back by PVR Director’s Rare – an initiative to provide an alternate platform to innovative cinema.
But how was this classic restored? A technical team worked hard on the print to come up with a version that looked like the original. We are sure many filmmakers would now hope that their old and damaged prints are restored, preserved and improved, so that they become available to the future generations in the best form.
