She’s gawky, petite and comes with barely any distinctive attribute to make it big on the silver screen and yet the Ishaqzaade actor has managed to grab quick stardom. We trail Parineeti Chopra’s journey from being an average looking gal to a fine performer who is here to stay
She never wanted to become an ‘actress’. The 2009 economic recession made 21-year-old Parineeti Chopra decide that heading back home to India could be a wise decision. Perhaps that was the only choice she had. After studying Finance at Manchester Business School, she could not find a job in the UK as the financial crunch had enveloped the Continent. Never did Parineeti imagine, not even in her wildest dreams, that a flight back home would turn out to be the most crucial decision of her life, the one that would take her to dizzying heights and fetch her a really quick handful of stardom.
Once in India, Parineeti joined Yash Raj Films as a publicist. Chopra had originally intended to do an internship for a short time and then return to the UK. But while working on her marketing and PR skills for the production house, Parineeti got a chance to audition for a film. She decided to give it a shot…just for fun. In fact, Parineeti now says that she was just fooling around with the camera when she auditioned for her debut film, Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl. Much to her surprise, director Maneesh Sharma (of Band Baaja Baaraat fame) and producer Aditya Chopra were highly impressed with Parineeti’s camera presence and her unconventional acting skills. They promptly signed three films with the young girl and the rest, as they say, is a phenomenon we know as ‘Parineeti’.
But what made Parineeti click? In an industry where people plan their careers with diligence and perfect every move to bag the ideal role in a well-crafted film, Parineeti’s success story reflects a lot of the unpredictable ways in which the movie biz functions. Many say that Chopra brought a refreshing blast of change with her. Here was a girl who was miles away from the regular image of a diva. In fact, Parineeti’s quirks, her imperfections and her rawness worked in her favour. She’s chatty, she’s cool and doesn’t claim to be the next big thing. When she is on the screen you realise that she is not trying to be somebody else. She just gets the best out of herself and that quality has resonated with young India big time. Her bindass attitude makes her the coolest babe around.
This talented star is only going to improve with time and as she hones her craft and we hope she continues to give us some delightful roles in the days to come.
