When Chandragupta Maurya wore a skirt

Ashish Sharma, who plays the aspiring Magadh leader, says there’s nothing easy about it

It’s not easy being Chandragupta Maurya. And it gets worse when your costume is a skirt. Yes, a skirt. Just ask Ashish Sharma. Gunahon Ka Devta’s Avdesh has got a new role – that of the grown up Chandragupta. And while he finds it interesting to play the character and explore his nuances, somethings are just a darn uncomfortable. Such as his costume. “I am a soldier in Alexander’s army. Every time Alexander takes over a kingdom, he recruits the locals into his army. (The story has reached the point where Alexander’s army is on the verge of entering Magadh.) Chanakya has planted me in the army,” he reveals. But that’s not all. “As a Greek soldier, I have to wear a skirt! And there was this scene where I had to jump on to a horse and gallop, while in my skirt! It’s really difficult to ride a horse in a skirt. I wonder how ladies do it,” he laughs. Don’t worry Ashish, that skirt will surely triple your female fan following. Wouldn’t that be worth it?
