Not many know that Imtiaz Ali wrote the Rockstar script long ago and approached the handsome model-turned-actor to play the title role. But the film got stalled when the Dostana dude’s career started its downslide
Recently Ranbir Kapoor revealed in an interview that he pushed Imtiaz Ali to make Rockstar. Not many know that the filmmaker had written the script seven or eight years ago and the young star wasn’t the first actor to be approached for it. However, RK junior, who was starting his career around the same time with Saawariya, had heard the story of Rockstar from a friend. And he was pretty impressed even with the two-line description. Back then handsome hunk John Abraham was part of the film. Imtiaz had originally approached the model-turned-actor to play the title role. This was way before Jab We Met became a blockbuster hit and Imtiaz became the director to work with! Since John always encouraged new filmmakers, he instantly agreed to be a part of the rock drama. At the time the actor was a hot favourite, riding on the popularity of Dhoom, Garam Masala and Taxi No 9211. As a result, Imtiaz easily found a leading production house to back the project. All was going well till John’s career started sliding downwards fast and plans to make Rockstar were nipped in the bud, thus pushing Imtiaz to move on to Love Aaj Kal. But destiny had plans for Rockstar. Years later Imtiaz approached Ranbir for a film, when the young actor reminded him about Rockstar. That was it. The writer-director went back home, modified the script and, after a couple of months, called Ranbir in for a narration. Once again RK was impressed and that’s how Rockstar got started. So the next time they say that films have their own destiny, we and you will have to agree! Meanwhile, we are sure Ranbir must be thanking destiny for this one!
