The King Khan had actually said no to the film that made him the icon he is today
When you think of Raj Malhotra of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, you think only of Shahrukh Khan. But did you know he had actually refused the film the first time Aditya Chopra offered it to him? Anupama Chopra recalls in her book Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge: The Making Of A Blockbuster that Shahrukh did not want to be the conventional romantic hero, and so had told Aditya he doesn’t want to do the film. Shahrukh had just started out doing interesting offbeat roles – the psychopath lover in Darr and Anjaam, the revenge-obsessed son in Baazigar – and he did not want to trade in his new-found fame just to get stuck in the rut of the chocolate boy hero. But Aditya persuaded him and the rest, as they say, is history. The film really established SRK, and his jodi with Kajol, and made them one of the best onscreen couples ever.
