Why did Shahid Kapoor lose his temper?
Usually stars choose to turn a deaf ear when people, especially critics, run down their films, but Shahid chose to retort with some heat
Mausam is a movie that is very close to Shahid Kapoor’s heart, especially because it is his father Pankaj Kapoor’s directorial debut as well. The young star had put his life on hold for this film for about three years, which is a long time, and it is natural that he would be fiercely protective about it. But it caused some fireworks – film critic Taran Adarsh was doing his job when he said, “Mausam fetched approx `21 cr/`22 crore net in its opening weekend. Biz slid downwards on Saturday, but showed escalation on Sunday… numbers are below the mark.” But Shahid took offense and tweeted back, “So all those trying so hard to screw “Mausam” can go screw themselves. Waise bhi aajkal kuchh logon ke adarsh buri tarha gir chuke hain.” By using the word ‘adarsh’ he was taking a subtle dig at the film critic. Adarsh (the man) himself upped the ante and replied, “Abusing me won’t help. Instead, get a reality check and introspect the shortcomings of the film.” Trade reports say that Mausam has managed to net a total of around Rs2.75-3cr; this figure is not great, as under normal circumstances it would have been Rs3.5 crores at least. If Mausam is unable to hold its position on weekdays, it might not be even able to recover the money spent on making it, as the budget of the film is estimated to have been around Rs40 cr. Who knows, Taran Adarsh might just have the last laugh…
