Well, it has nothing to do with the fact that her ex-flame Shahid Kapoor’s Haider was going to release on the same date. Here’s the real reason
A little birdie tells us that the makers of Priyanka Chopra’s Mary Kom have pushed the film’s release date further. You ask us, why? Well, the filmmakers wanted more time to work on the film so that it has a global appeal, like Farhan Akhtar’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Priyanka’s film was supposed to release on October 2 along with Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif’s Bang Bang and Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s Haider. However, the film is now being worked upon so that it’s a one of a kind sports biopic.
Priyanka Chopra’s Mary Kom biopic will now have two versions, one catering to the Indian audience and one for the global audience. A source was quoted by a popular website, “The version for the Indian market would have songs and more scenes showing Mary Kom’s home life. These upgradations in the original design of Mary Kom would take time. We’re in no hurry to complete the film any more.”
The source added, “There is a lot more being added to the film now. Director Omang Kumar has asked Priyanka to spend a lot more time with the real Mary Kom. The second-half of the film is being made much more dramatic and powerful. And the fights in the ring would be to die for.” Well now, that’s promising, no?
With regards to the postponing of the film’s release date, a source was quoted, “The producers Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Viacom 18 took a joint decision last month to postpone the release date so that Mary Kom could be further developed into another Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Viacom had unexpectedly massive global success with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. They are now looking at Mary Kom as the female counterpart of Milka Singh’s biopic. The global appeal of Mary Kom is much more contemporary than BMB. While Milkha Singh’s biopic was retrospective in structure Mary Kom is being made even as the real-life Mary Kom prepares for the next Olympics.”
Well BollywoodLifers, we are certainly looking forward to watch Priyanka Chopra’s Mary Kom biopic. And each passing day, the filmmakers give us all the more reason to get more excited about the film. What about you, peeps?
