Why is Shahid Kapoor saying no to newcomers?

Sasha thinks he has finally figured out why most of his films have been duds at the box office – heroines who do not have a huge fan following, since they are still new. The Kaminey actor thinks failure has nothing to do with choosing the wrong films or his own acting…

Shahid Kapoor pinned all his hopes on Rajkumar Santoshi’s Phata Poster Nikhla Hero that also starred Ileana D’Cruz. But sadly, the film had a thanda run at the box office. The Kapoor lad will next be seen in Prabhudeva’s R…Rajkumar with Sonakshi Sinha and Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider with Shraddha Kapoor. He also has various other projects to consider, we hear. But more interesting is the fact that since none of his co-stars are A-listers, Shahid wants to work with someone who is in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Milan Talkies. We hear the Jab We Met star doesn’t want to take any chances with Dhulia’s film. Apparently, SK – through his managers – has made it clear that he won’t work in the film unless his choice of female actor is finalised for the project. That’s not all. Prabhudeva is keen on roping in an A-list actress for an item number for R…Rajkumar, never mind that Sonakshi has a fairly steady BO presence. Now we certainly know where these demands are coming from, hai na? That none of the B-town leading ladies are available is another story. Bad luck, Shahid!

It looks as if Sasha’s rubbing-people-the-wrong-way attitude is back, no? But if an A-list actress makes all the difference, then how come Teri Meri Kahaani with Priyanka Chopra flopped? Isn’t she totally A-list? Also, the actor has been working with successful directors over the past few films, looking to revive his filmi career. While his film with Santoshi didn’t do too well, pre-reviews of R…Rajkumar aren’t encouraging either. So could director Rohit Shetty be next on Shahid’s list. After all, Shetty has been minting money like no other filmmaker with his projects, be they with Ajay Devgn or more recently with Shahrukh Khan and Chennai Express. But will Shetty want to direct SK? Will SK do a film with Shetty?

With Shahid’s not-so-happy record of work, wethinks he should first thank his stars that at least he is still signed on to play the hero’s role. As for his obsession with A-list heroines – Shahid, if you aren’t ready to take chances with your films why would any B-town leading lady agree to star with you? After all, six back-to-back flop films isn’t a very flattering history, no?
