Vishal Bhardwaj’s forthcoming release Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola recieves an ‘A certificate’ from the Censor Board, leaving the intelligent filmmaker fuming with anger
Pankaj Kapoor’s character in Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming film Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola-starring Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles- repeats the word ‘paincho’ which rhymes closely with an abusive word in Hindi. This fact, it seems, has not gone down well with the CBFC ( Central Board of Film Certification) and it has handed an Adults Only certificate to the film. This move has clearly miffed Bhardwaj. “It isn’t an abusive word. Besides, it’s meant to be hilarious, not offensive. Do not kill the flavor of the region for one word that sounds like a ‘gaali’ as it is not an adult film. The phrase is not offending at all… in fact, it is amusing. ‘Paincho Paincho’ is actually quite musical. There is an extremely popular family restaurant in Bandra called ‘Papa Pancho’. Society has accepted that, then why not in the film? Society has to come out of this hypocrisy.” said the enraged filmmaker in an interview.
Clearly, Bhardwaj has not accepted the A certificate handed out to his production. The Kaminey director has decided to appeal the decision passed by the CBFC. He will now take it up with the Revising Committee on 17 December.
The film is slated to release on January 11, 2013
