We hear that for the remake Himesh Reshammiya is keen to have the powerful star couple reprising the roles played by Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi in the original 1983 hit
Just when speculation is rife that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will make her return to the silver screen soon, we hear bigger news. We are told that Himesh Reshammiya has convinced Ash and her dearest hubby Abhishek Bachchan to star in his remake of the 1983 musical hit Masoom, which starred Urmila Matondkar and Jugal Hansraj as child actors. That one was directed by Shekhar Kapur and featured Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah as a couple dealing with marital issues.
Our feathered friends who were evesdropping told us that Reshammiya has been toying with the idea of remaking Masoom for a long time now. And he has already negotiated terms for the rights of the Shekhar Kapur-directed film from its original producers – Chanda Dutt and Devi Dutt. The original Masoom was a gripping tale about a couple’s relationship with an illegitimate child; the new version is to be directed by Bedobrata Pain, whose historical film Chittagong released last year to great critical acclaim.
Wethinks Abhi-Ash could prove to be an apt choice for Naseer-Shabana’s characters, since they are well-versed with parenthood after a year or more of parenting Beti B Aaradhya! But we wonder, who will play Jugal’s or Urmila’s character in this remake? Any guesses?
