Will AR Rahman have to face the music?

The Mozart of Madras gets into trouble for his recent rendition Hosanna…. from Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Ek Deewana Tha

The makers of the Hindi remake of super hit Tamil film, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, seem to have landed in trouble with Catholic community, for using the word ‘Hosanna’ in a song. News is that the Catholic-Christian Secular Forum (CSF)  is irked with the use of word ‘Hosanna‘ in the song. The forum has shot off letters to authorities concerned including music composer AR Rahman demanding that the song be withdrawn. “We would like to point out that Hosanna is a prayer in the Bible and sacred to both Jews and Christians, referring to God or Jesus Christ, with strong reverential and religious connotations. How can it be used in a film?” asked CSF general secretary Joseph Dias. CSF has written to Rahman, Fox Star Studio and Sony Music, demanding an apology. If the forum didn’t receive any response from the filmmaker and others within two days, it would approach the police and court. CSF also plans to launch a public agitation if no action is taken against the song. What is surprising is that the Hosanna song was featured in the Tamil film and has been around for about two years now. It made us wonder, why this song and dance, all of a sudden? Rumours are that the makers of Ek Deewana Tha have fuelled this controversy because of the lukewarm response that the trailer has got so far. While we aren’t sure what prompted this new development, we think, AR Rahman shouldn’t have been dragged into this mire. What do you think?Subscribe to me on YouTube

Well, it is a sentimental issue but i agree the response has come in two years too late!
