Though Vidya Balan stole the thunder in Milan Luthria’s The Dirty Picture and kept it with a rocking start to the new year with Kahaani, this year could belong to Bollywood’s serial kisser
Emraan Hashmi has been gaining credence in Bollywood, never mind that he doesn’t have the clout of the Khans at the BO. He has his own fan following that loves everything he does, especially kissing and making out with his leading ladies onscreen. Vishesh Films may be like his second home, but he is now being approached by other big production houses like Balaji Telefilms and Dharma Productions.
In his forthcoming film, Dibakar Banerjee’s Shanghai, he will be seen in a scruffy avatar, unlike the usual suave and smooth operator look that he sports in most of his films. Rumours about his co-star Abhay Deol feeling insecure about being overshadowed by Emraan’s character are already an indication that perhaps Shanghai is his best film till date as an actor.
And then there is Rush, in which Emraan will be playing an investigative journalist. The film was started by Shamin Desai, but he died unexpectedly before it could be completed. Shamin’s wife Priyanka took it on and has finished the film. In an interview Emraan said, “”I was blown away by Shamin’s script. It’s a film I’m very excited about and something I’ve never done before. I found a journalist’s life tough. I play an investigative crime journo in a news channel.”
This year Emraan will also be seen in Raaz 3, Jannat 2, the untitled co-production of Balaji Telefilms and Dharma Productions to be directed by Akshay Roy, and Vishal Bhardwaj’s Daayan. As an actor Emraan has his plate full and his fans can rejoice all through 2012. We, of course, wait to watch and will bring you all that you need to know about the star and his work!
