If have seen the trailer and the songs that have been released so far, you’ll undoubtedly agree with us on this. Also, reports about the lead pair of 2 States being more than just friends have been doing the rounds forever. And this has only raised the curiosity level amongst the movie goers. Not to forget, this film is backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions which does give an edge to Alia-Arjun starrer. But the question is – will the film adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s bestselling novel 2 States strike gold at the box office? Exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi says, “2 States looks like a very promising film courtesy various factors! The lead stars of the film are extremely popular among the youth and their draw at the box office will be something to watch out for. Add to that, a story that is extremely relevant to the Indian society at large and contemporary enough to make the youngsters flock the cinemas. More so, a large number of Indian youngsters have not read a single book in their entire life, barring a Chetan Bhagat novel! This chunk would definitely be interested in catching the film.”
As for IPL 7 affecting the box office collections of 2 States, Rathi points out, “I see it doing well at the box office, but it’s collision with the opening week of the IPL will probably slow it down a tad bit initially. However, if the film is well made and entertaining enough, there would be no stopping it through its run!”
Ace astro-numerologist Bhavikk Sangghvi also feels that Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor first collaboration will manage to pull in crowds to the theatres. He predicts, “As per the numerological meaning derived, it seems the film will definitely appeal to its target audience (mainly youth) who frequent multiplexes of metros/big cities etc.”
While 2 States looks to fare well at the box office, only time will tell how far the film will go in the numbers game.
