Seems like the Lafangey lad is trying to get out of the rut of the multi-starrer films that he seems to be stuck in
You last saw Neil Nitin Mukesh in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 7 Khoon Maaf as one of the victims of serial wife-and-killer Priyanka Chopra. Though it was a small role, he was noticed and appreciated. Many in the film industry said that it was hara-kiri for any mainstream actor to become part of an ensemble cast, as there is a strong chance that he may not be able to find solo roles after that. The concern seemed appropriate when Neil was signed on for another multi-starrer – Abbas-Mustan’s Players, where he will be sharing screen space with Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Sikandar Kher and Omi Vaidya. Apparently Neil got the message and started looking around for solo-hero films after that, but what seems to have gone against him is that his solo image is stuck in the Johnny Gaddaar rut; people like him in the ‘hatke’ noir films he has shone in. He recently tweeted that “Alright so interesting offers coming up. Different concepts wilder grittier! I like I’m glad people are thinking out of the box.” Last we heard, Neil has been bonding with Lara Dutta’s hubby Mahesh Bhupati, who turned producer with the Vinay Pathak – Lara Dutta starrer Chalo Dilli. Neil mentioned Mahesh as being an ‘intelligent producer’ on Twitter. We wonder where that came from… or is Neil trying to be nice to his potential future producer, who could probably give him a solo-hero film with Lara Dutta? Aah, diplomacy!
