Will Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan delay help Amole Gupte’s Hawaa Hawaai at the box office?

The South superstar’s much-anticipated film has been delayed yet again and will now hit the theatres on May 23 instead of this Friday. With Rajini no longer in the race, will Saqib Saleem’s new film have an advantage at the BO?

Rajinikanth and Deepika Padukone starrer Kochadaiiyaan has been in the news ever since the film was announced. Directed by Soundarya R Ashwin, the high on technology film was initially supposed to release in 2012 but it got delayed multiple times. Finally the makers confirmed that Rajini starrer would hit the screens on May 9. This time it seemed Kochadaiiyaan would stick to its release date but sadly the animated period drama has been pushed forward to May 23. We know his fans must be dejected as they have been waiting forever to see their favourite superstar onscreen as the talented actor has been missing from action since 2010. But the change in Kochadaiiyaan’s release would be a breather at least for the team Hawaa Hawaai. Amole Gupte’s directorial venture starring his son Partho and Saqib Saleem has grabbed eyeballs courtesy its promising trailer and solid story line. No doubt the film would have done well at the box office but when two films clash the money pie obviously gets divided, hai na?

Knowing Rajinikanth’s star power, Hawaa Hawaai would have surely faced a tough competition at the ticket windows. But now that Rajini-Deepika starrer has been delayed, filmmaker Amole Gupte’s film would easily get cash registers jingling. It would have otherwise too but when there is no competition at the box office, chances of a film to rake in big moolah gets better. Right Bollywoodlifers?
