Will Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan overpower Hawaa Hawaai and Mastram at the box office? Trade buzz!

This week is indeed going to be nothing less than dhamakedaar as seven films are set to clash at the box office. But which one will get cash registers jingling? Will Rajinikanth’s much-awaited film play a spoilsport for the rest? Read on to know…

Come Friday Kochadaiiyaan starring Rajinikanth and Deepika Padukone in the lead will hit the theatres alongside Amole Gupte’s Hawaa Hawaai, producer Sunil Bohra’s controversial erotic thriller Mastram and Vinod Khanna-Suniel Shetty starrer Koyelaanchal. Besides these four films, director Sandeep Varma’s biopic on Manjunath Shanmugam, Janaki Vishwanathan’s social satire Yeh Hai Bakrapur and Zaid Ali Khan’s directorial venture Khwaabb will also release on May 9. While all the films are of completely different genres, going by the star power Kochadaiiyaan sure looks to fare well at the ticket windows. But the trailer of Amole Gupte’s Hawaa Hawaai has also received positive response from the masses and though the Sivaji actor is a Superstar, his films aren’t really a big draw except for down South. As for the rest of the films, there is hardly any buzz around them but if the content is good then it won’t be long before movie goers throng to the cinema halls and watch these not-so-commercial Bollywood flicks, hai na? However, the big question is – which film will race ahead in the numbers game? Will Kochadaiiyaan rule at the box office?

Exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi says, “9th May will witness a clash of as many as 8 films! While superstar Rajnikanth’s Kochadaiiyan will have a clean sweep down South, business at the box office will be divided among a couple of films in the heartland and cities of Northern India. Hawaa Hawaai, courtesy the rave reviews and acclaim that it’s already getting will do well in the multiplexes and bigger cities that are impacted by the outreach of the media – conventional and social. In the absolute mass belts and tier 3 towns, it’s a contest between Sunil Bohra’s film Mastram (depending on the sex-factor) and Aashu Trikha’s Koyelaanchal, which is a hardcore action film set in the backdrop of the coal mafia. An assortment of films – Hindi and Marathi release with these and they will cater to very geographically niche audiences.”

Ace astro-numerologist Bhavikk Sangghvi says Rajini’s latest offering which is a technology breakthrough will certainly appeal all his fans across the globe. He predicts, “As per the numerological meaning derived, it seems the film will mainly appeal to its target audience (die-hard Rajni fans who like watching their idol in any avatar) and that’s about it.”

Sangghvi also believes Ms Padukone’s performance will be appreciated in Kochadaiiyaan. Well, that won’t be surprising considering the dusky beauty is on a roll since last year, hai na?
