After the release of King Khan’s Chak De! India, he was named the poster boy of hockey. News is that he will be playing a legendary hockey player in his next, a biopic
It seems that the success of Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Irrfan-starrer Paan Singh Tomar is inspiring filmmakers in B-town to make biopics on sporting legends. We recently saw Farhan Akhtar’s first look as the sprinter Milkha Singh in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and were most impressed. The latest in the series of potential biopics is one on legendary hockey player Dhyan Chand, to be reprised by Shahrukh Khan.
Confirming the news in a recent interview SRK said, ““Yes, I have been approached for a movie based on the legendary Dhyan Chandji’s life. Hockey, as a sport, isn’t new to me since I have been an athlete throughout my school and college life, and I’ve especially played a lot of hockey.” Having done a critically lauded job as a hockey coach in Shimit Amin’s Chak De! India, wethinks SRK will be on home turf in this new project.
We all know that Shahrukh has been a national level hockey player while in school, so he can do justice to the role. Details about the biopic are still not available, but we heard a rumour that King Khan might co-produce the film. Wethinks it would be great to watch SRK not playing himself on the screen, and be awed by his acting as someone well known real person, like in Chak De! India and Swades.
