Will Shiney Ahuja be as lucky as Arnold Schwarzenegger?
It’s amazing how different B-town is from Hollywood. Just think – sins, especially of the sex kind, are so easily forgiven out West, while here we have a lot of trouble getting past anything even slightly sex-linked. Guess we ain’t as cool as we think!
Experts say that Arnold Schwarzenegger’s admission of fathering a love child will not harm his career. I am not surprised. After all, with precedents like Roman Polanski, Robert Downey Jr and Lindsay Lohan and all their sexual shenanigans, Arnie is small stuff in comparison. But back home in Bollywood Shiney Ahuja, now out on bail, might not be so lucky, methinks. In his first interview post the rape case the actor says, “I am not expecting any new offers but taking each day as it comes.” No surprise again. Only time will tell if his career gets a second chance now.But the hypocrisy in Bollywood is amazing. Sexual favours, casting couches, bed hopping and more are commonplace, even though no one will come out and say they do it/know of it/have been part of it. The biggies might deny it and, when starlets like Preeti Jain (of Madhur Bhandarkar fame) or Payal Rohatgi (with the Dibakar Banerjee connection) open up about it, no one pays heed. Maybe they spoke the truth or maybe it was a publicity trick, but the truth is, there are no saints here. Just because Shiney was caught with his pants down – err…in a manner of speaking – should his career suffer? Remember what Raj Kumar said in Waqt? ‘Jinke apne ghar sheeshe ke hon woh doosron par pathar nahi phenka karte (people who live in glass houses should not throw stones at others)’.
