Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi Sinha, Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor are reportedly battling it out to play the lead role first offered to Kangna Ranaut. The meaty role in Milan Luthria’s next gangster film is inspired by Mandakini
Yesteryear starlet Mandakini, once linked to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, is said to have inspired the character of a moll in Milan Luthria’s upcoming sequel to Once Upon a Time in Mumbai. Just about a month ago Kangna Ranaut was on the verge of signing up for the role but, much to Kangy’s dismay, the makers of the film are considering other big names now for the lead female character opposite Akshay Kumar. Kangna was part of Once Upon A Time In Mumbai and that resulted in a certain degree of skepticism about her being in the sequel with Akshay and Imran Khan.
A little birdie twittered to us that Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha are in the race to win the significant part in the movie based on the Mumbai underworld from late 1970 to mid 1980. We also learned that Sonakshi Sinha might win the role, as she is comfortable with the dates to the film, as compared to Deepika and Katrina, whose calendars are crammed with filmi assignments and various other commitments. Apparently Vidya Balan, who’s known for her exceptional acting talent, was also offered the role, but is not too keen to do the film since she feels that too many male actors might leave her with little to do. Besides Akshay, the film also stars John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Sonu Sood and Manoj Bajpai. Incidentally, Imran Khan has also been confirmed as parallel lead with Akshay. Milan and producer Ekta Kapoor are likely to finalise the female lead soon, as the shoot is scheduled to start in June. Though the possibility of Sonakshi bagging the role is high, we wonder if the Dabangg gal will be able to play the scheming moll convincingly…
