The Khoon Bhari Maangs, Daminis and Mrityudands occur less often in Bollywood than Women’s Day propagators would like you to think. Bollywood remains a male-dominated realm both off screen and on screen. There is that cliched situation in which the hero dramatically rescues the hapless heroine from the clutches of the villain. It happens more often than the heroine taking an axe and freeing herself. Sometimes it’s more covert and you may have to watch a film or a scene twice to see it, but it’s always there. We bring you a few of the more offensive instances that are conveniently passed off as accepted behaviour, even jokes!
