On the occasion of World Music Day, Bollywoodlife brings you a bunch of talented young singers who are giving the playback veterans a run for their money

Gone are the days when playback singing were ruled by the likes of Udit Narayan,Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu. In recent times, Bollywood has been flooded with plethora of fresh talented singers. But it takes a special spell binding charisma in voice to forge ahead in this cut throat competition.

On the wake of World Music Day, we bring you such charismatic set of singers who have managed to make a distinct mark in the minds of the listeners.

Arijit Singh

Back in 2005, Arijit Singh emerged as young promising singer from reality show Fame Gurukul. But little did he know that he would become a youth sensation in the years to come. After assisting music director Pritam in numerous occasions, Arijit came to limelight with his song from Murder 2 – Phir mohabbat. But the song which really made him an overnight star was Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2. Since then Arijit has sung number of chartbusters and is now a regular in almost every film.

Neeti Mohan

She is an another talented singer who came to light thanks to Channel V’s reality show Popstars. Neeti Mohan was also a member of Indian pop group Aasma. Neeti got her first break through the immensely popular song Ishq wala love from Student of the Year and since then has never looked back. The young crooner had got this incredible opportunity to sing for musical genius AR Rahman and is a regular in AR Rahman’s live renditons for M tv’s Coke Studio. Neeti Mohan showcased her immense talent as she sung a difficult song like Jiya re from Jab Tak Hai Jaan without even straining her vocal chords for one bit.

Ankit Tiwari

Though Ankit Tiwari may be stuck in a legal battle on the charges of alleged rape, it is beyond doubt that Ankit is a immensely gifted singer. He first came into limelight when he mesmerised music lovers with his characteristic silky voice in Sun Raha Hai Na Tu from Aashiqui 2. The singing sensation has rocked again with a soul stirring number Teri Galiyan from yet to be released Ek Villain.

Jonita Gandhi

This Indo-Canadian singer broke onto the scene with the title track of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Chennai Express. Jonita has the privilege of recording her first song with the great SPB. Jonita really made an impact under AR Rahman’s score in Highway as she sung two beautiful numbers  with great veracity. While she displayed her unique style of singing through the song Kahan Hoon Main, it was the hauntingly peaceful number Implosive silence in Highway which won her many admirers. It is surprising how much Jonita could do without even uttering a single word. Implosive silence is a proof of that.

Siddharth Mahadevan

The son of popular singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan, Siddharth Mahadevan left a huge impact on listeners with his first song Zinda from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The song sung meticulously by Siddharth Mahadevan went to become a youth anthem. After rip roaring success with his first song, Siddharth again broke the mould with an immensely popular number from Dhoom 3- Malang Malang.

As the competition in playback singing game getting tougher and tougher with new kids arriving every single day, these five youngsters have  made some serious in roads and yes their future looks bright.
