The Bollywood production house’s first South Indian film goes on the floors and marks the studio’s foray into regional markets
Bollywood’s favourite production house Yash Raj Films (YRF), mostly known for its lovely romantic movies, is now fishing in new waters. Not only is the studio eyeing Hollywood with Uday Chopra’s Grace of Monaco starring Nicole Kidman, but also looking at regional movies in India.
It was announced last December that YRF’s 2010 blockbuster Band Baaja Baaraat (BBB) would be remade in Tamil and Telugu. The film, toplining Eega actor Nani, is directed by Gokul Krishna and produced by Aditya Chopra.
The female lead is played by newbie Vaani Kapoor, who will first be seen in YRF’s latest Hindi film, Shuddh Desi Romance, which has Parineeti Chopra and Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead roles.
The BBB remake is yet untitled, but has completed its first schedule in Chennai in May. The next schedule will be in July in Hyderabad and Mysore.
YRF promises to deliver more in terms of original regional content in the future. For now, we’re keeping our fingers crossed and waiting to see if Vaani and Nani can match up to Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh’s performances as Shruti and Bittoo in the original BBB!
