The supremely confident and overly-enthusiastic trade pundits and numerologists suggest that it is likely and can’t stop praising KJo’s upcoming romcom. Here’s what they – and us – have to say!
Karan Johar is all set to unleash his much-anticipated romcom of the year Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani this Friday. The Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone starrer certainly marks Johar’s return to what he’s known to do best – depicting romance onscreen through his shining lead couple! Wethinks this one has all the ingredients of a sure-shot blockbuster: the promos have created an amazing buzz, the music has become a rage among the youth, it has the Dharma Productions banner backing it and, last but not least, the lovable pair of Ranbir and Deepika is all set to sizzle on the big screen five years after Bachna Ae Haseeno. Considering there’s so much going on in favour of the film, the big question still remains – will Ayan Mukerji be second time lucky in touching the hearts of his audience?
Numerologist Bhavikk Sangghvi predicts, “The movie title adding up to number 61 – an unlucky octave of number 7 symbolised by the signs of revolution, upheaval, strife, failure and prevention if it comes out in calculations relating to future events. It sounds pretty much like Ranbir’s character Bunny, who believes in living life on his own terms and doesn’t fear defeat. So going purely by that context and as per the numerological meaning derived, the makers have a clear cut winner on their hands.”
Leading exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi says, “The entire industry has its eyes on YJHD, which is being looked at with the hope of it becoming the first Rs 100 crore grosser of 2013. It has Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone coming together after a long gap, lavish production values, chartbuster music and even the lead actor of a Rs 70 crore plus grosser (Aditya Roy Kapur in Aashiqui 2) as its second lead! With all this going for it, there’s nothing that can stop this romcom from taking a smashing opening at the BO in India and abroad. What’s ‘different’ about YJHD is the fact that finally, after a long time, this is a film that’s NOT ‘trying to be different’ – making it a quintessential, Dharma style Bollywood romcom. Expect a storm at the ticket windows this Friday!”
For Karan, YJHD might just be a trump card in terms of box collections worldwide. “The film in all probability will cross Rs 100 crore mark,” feels Rajesh Thadani, distributor, Multimedia Combines. “Considering the star cast, banner and buzz the film has generated, the film is expected to do at least Rs 45-50 crores business in the opening weekend. Again, all depends on the content.”
