With their latest film Love Breakups Zindagi just hitting the theatres, they get candid about their movie-making experience
When Dia Mirza entered the industry after winning the Miss Asia Pacific 2000 title, everyone predicted a bright future for her. But that didn’t quite happen and Bollywood slowly sidelined the pretty actor to supporting roles. There was the buzz that Dia will get married and quit acting. In a recent interview, she said, “Perhaps for the longest time, I haven’t been cast in lead roles. The truth is, agar aapki film super hit hai, toh sab apko cast karenge (If your film is a super hit, everyone will cast you) whether you have the talent or not. If you have the looks and half the talent, it will work.” But that doesn’t mean she is ready to settle down with boyfriend Sahil Sangha. “I am blessed that I finally found my life partner and marriage is just a formality which will happen in due course. Sahil and I were seeing each other before the movie (LBZ) started.” Her good friend and co-producer had a similarly chequered career. But the two insist that’s not why they turned producers. Said Zayed, “(When you are just actors) producer might have a different idea, agenda...auron ki bhi sunni padegi (you have to listen to others) …probably in the due process we would have lost the flavour of the movie.” Dia added, “We became producers because we wanted absolute creative control.” Zayed also believes that every actor should turn producer – only then will they understand the value of time and money. We agree.
