Bikaner bids a tearful adieu to its singing star!
Sandeep Acharya’s last rites took place at his native place in Bikaner yesterday. Family members, friends and fans bade a teary-eyed adieu to the singer who died in a private hospital in Gurgaon in Haryana at the age of 29 on Sunday. Hundreds attended the funeral of Acharya, who was afflicted with jaundice for the past few days, at Chokhuti cremation ground in Bikaner town.
Acharya was the runner up in the Golden Voice of Rajasthan. He was crowned the winner of India Idol Season 2 on 22 April 2006. This win got him a Rs 10 million contract from Sony BMG, a music album contract. Sandeep also participated in a TV show on channel 9X – Jalwa Four 2 Ka 1 on Mika‘s team. He was also the winner of the best new Bollywood talent in New Jersey, USA. He won the Sur Aradhna award in Delhi’s Siri Fort Auditorium for best upcoming male singer category.
The playback singer, who is survived by his wife and a month-old daughter.
