Is Asha Parekh disappointed with today’s lyricists?

Veteran Bollywood actor expressed her displeasure about today’s song lyrics

Asha Parekh is happy that the film industry has advanced technically but is disappointed with the lyrics of the present day songs.  “Today there is a difference in the way film industry works. Technically we have advanced. But the lyrics of the songs are not so good. The lyrics in our time were beautiful.  The dancing is modernised today. I hope there is more of folk, classical dance in films. The people of today must not forget India and our traditions,” she said.

A tile bearing the hand print of the 71-year-old actor was unveiled today. It will later be installed at ‘Walk of the Stars’ promenade in Bandra. The actor said,  “It’s an honour to get this. I am touched and grateful to everyone for the support.”

The actor started her career as a child artiste under screen name Baby Asha Parekh in film Aasmaan in 1952.  Parekh’s first lead role was in Dil Deke Dekho(1959) with Shammi Kapoor, after which never she looked back.  She delivered memorable performances in films like Teesri Manzil, Caravan, Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki, Kati Patang among others and has worked with stars like Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna, Shashi Kapoor, Jitendra, Manoj Kumar and Dharmendra during her illustrious career.

The event to honour her today was attended by actors Rishi Kapoor, Jeetendra, Helen, Dimple Kapadia, Waheeda Rehman, Jackie Shroff, besides her family members.  On the occasion, veteran actor Helen said, “Asha is a friend. I am happy and proud about this honour. I wished this (honour) should have come earlier.”  Noted actor Waheeda Rehman said, though Asha has been a successful star, she is very down to earth, easy and a wonderful friend.  “I scold her as an elder sister, she has given me that right,” she added.
