Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave wins best film at BAFTA 2014
Lupita Nyong’o and Brad Pitt’s highly-acclaimed Pre-Civil war drama 12 Years a Slave was dubbed the best film at 2014’s BAFTA. Meanwhile, the Sandra Bullock and George Clooney starrer space drama Gravity was chosen as the Outstanding British Film, the Independent reported. The movie is based on the true story of Solomon Northup, a free black man, who was abducted and sold into slavery.
While Chiwetel Ejiofor won the best actor award for his role in the historical drama, the best actress award was bagged by Cate Blanchett for Woody Allen-helmed Blue Jasmine where she stars as a fallen NYC socialite.
