Pakistani singer Zubaida Khanum no more

The veteran singer was suffering from heart ailments for the last few years

Zubaida Khanum, one of the most popular Pakistani singers passed away on October 19 following a heart attack. The 78-year-old was suffering from prolonged heart ailments for quite sometime. According to Dawn newspaper, Doctors at a Lahore hospital pronounced her dead after she was rushed there when her condition deteriorated.

The late singer was born in Amritsar in 1935 but migrated to Lahore after the partition. Khanum began her career as a playback singer in the Pakistani film industry in 1951 with the film Billo. Apart from singing, Zubaida Khanum also worked as in actor in a number of films but stopped performing after settling down.

One of her most remembered songs, Assan jaan ke meet liye ankh wey from Heer, continues to charm Punjabi music lovers even today.
