Pakistani TV channels fined for broadcasting excessive Indian content

Ten Pakistani channels have been slapped with a fine worth Rs 10 million

Ten entertainment television channels in Pakistan have been slapped with a fine amounting to Rs 10 million for airing excessive Indian and foreign content according to reports. The report also mentioned that the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) imposed fine on the channels and issued warning letters to them to desist from such practice in future.

Pakistani channels have been authorised to air only 10 percent foreign content and 60 percent of that 10 per cent should be Indian or other content and 40 per cent of the 10 per cent may be English content.The report quoted a document of Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, claiming the local channels were airing excessive Indian content and it was above the prescribed limits.
