Shankar Mahadevan, Hariharan help the underprivileged

Some of music's best names came together on Wednesday night for a fundraiser concert. Shankar Mahadevan and Hariharan performed at the Kings in Concert at Shanmukhananda Hall in the Mumbai suburb of Sion to raise funds for underprivileged student artists of the Nagrik Shikshan Sanstha Sports and Cultural Academy. The two musicians, who are known to have a healthy respect for each other's work, collaborated on several hits including Dil Chahta Hai, Rock On!!, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Mitwa, Tu hi re and Bharat humko jaan se pyaara hai. They also sang a few Marathi and Tamil songs. Mahalakshmi Iyer joined them in a few duets and so did Hariharan's son Akshay. Enjoying their performance was not only a 2000-strong audience but also two very special musicians - Zakir Hussain and John Maclaughlin. It was a magical evening that no one wanted to end.
