The two actors play siblings in Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus
Anushka Shetty had been signed up for Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan, a bilingual. The latest is that she will play younger sister to Mahesh Babu’s character in the movie.
Kollywood superstars Vijay and Arya also star in the movie, based on the popular Tamil novel Ponniyin Selvan, by Kalki Krishna Murthy. The Telugu title for the film is yet to be announced.
Vijay plays the courageous warrior, VallavarayanVandiyatheyan, with Anushka as his lover. Her character is of prime importance, say sources. Mahesh plays King Aditha Karikalan; the role of Arulmozhi Varman (who later becomes Raja Raja Chola), initially slated to be played by Vikram, will now be played by Arya.
Reports also suggest that Mahesh is working extra hard to get into great shape; he will be sporting ethnic costumes, meaning that he would be shirtless most of the (screen) time. This will be a first for the actor, who has never stripped.
