It’s going to be party time in Kollywood soon. A host of mega-budget movies starring the biggies are lined up for release, breaking the trend of the last couple of months when no big star film hit the screens

The last couple of successful films at the box office were Oru Kal Oru Kannadi starring Udhayanidhi Stalin, Hansika Motwani and Santhanam and Kalakalappu, directed by Sundar C. Saguni, which released last week, is yet to be declared a hit though its makers claim it as a blockbuster. Now that IPL and the summer vacations are over and students (the target audience) are returning to their colleges, there is a mad rush to release big films. According to industry pundits, over half-a-dozen movies which, all put together costs around Rs 300 crores, are set to hit the screens in the coming weeks. In the next couple of months, the likes of Billa 2, Maatraan, Viswaroopam, Vettai Mannan, Mugamoodi, Thuppaki, Thaandavam, Kochadaiyaan  and Samar will release.

Naturally, the film industry and theatre-owners are hopeful of a bountiful season ahead in Kollywood. Movie buffs are all agog, too.
