On the occasion of 40th birthday of Prince Mahesh Babu, we bring his 5 most brilliant roles on screen
Born on August 9, 1974, in the household of Telugu actor Ghatamaneni Siva Rama Krishna, Mahesh Babu’s first exposure to films happened at the very young age of 5, when he appeared as a child artist in 1979 Telugu flick Needa. The Tollywood superstar spent most of his childhood in Chennai under the care of his maternal grandmother. Not many know, that Mahesh Babu and Tamil actor Suriya were classmates in school days.
Its been 15 years, since the tall, handsome, 25 year old young man made heads turn with his debut flick as hero with Rajakumarudu in 1999. And ever since, the actor has tasted phenomenal success in his acting career delivering more than 10 super hit films and bagging 4 Filmfare Awards and 7 Nandi Awards. As the actor lovingly called as Prince by his fans, celebrates his 40 th birthday, Bollywoodlife brings you 5 best movies of Mahesh Babu over the years.
By 2003, when Okkadu came out, people knew that this actor with smoldering looks is not just any run of the mill hero. One of the biggest victories of an actor is when he can keep the audience spell bind for three hours with his amazing screen presence. And in Okkadu, Mahesh Babu did just that, stealing the show as a Kabaddi player who rises against a local MLA.
Mahesh Babu’s 2005 film Athadu showcased the actor’s intensity to actually make any scene look brilliant. Directed by veteran director Trivikram Srinivas, the highlight of the film is Mahesh Babu who looks cool, confident and competent as a hit man with his expressive body language and mannerisms. Paired again opposite Trisha after Okkadu, the duo became quite a sensation in Tollywood.
The story of an under cover cop disguised as a common thug was quite a hit, not because the story was unique but because Mahesh Babu had infused so much life in his character that it was impossible to take eyes off of him. The actor shined as a carefree low life who does not fear any one in life. The ever fit star rose to the zenith of popularity with Pokiri. The film was then remade into Tamil and Hindi with Vijay and Salman Khan in lead roles respectively. But neither of the two superstar’s matched the class of Mahesh Babu’s performance.
While the 1:Nenokkadine star is currently busy with Srinu Vaitla‘s Aagadu, who can forget the hard hitting 2011 action film, Dookudu, of the actor-director duo. The high octane action film starred Mahesh Babu as a super cop, whose style, dialogues and fight sequences are a big plus in the film. Despite weak screenplay and some obvious logical errors, it was the standout performance of Mahesh Babu which made the film, a big money spinner at the box office.
Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu
While all the other films in the list may be mass hero subjects, this 2013 flick showcases pure talent of Mahesh Babu as an actor, without any punch lines and heroic fights. Not only did he win the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu this year, he was also widely appreciated for his restrained performance, sharing screen space with another big star. His brotherly bonding with Venkatesh in the film proves that though Prince Mahesh may be a superstar, he is an actor sans the ego and starry tantrums usually associated with big stars.
We wish a very happy birthday to the humble superstar and hope he stays on top of his game with his unique choice of films.
