Box Office report: Thuppakki mints Rs 65.32 crore worldwide in the opening week

In spite of controversies and delays, the Vijay-starrer Tamil action-thriller Thuppakki has been creating wonders at the box office in the opening week itself

“The film collected Rs 65.32 crore worldwide in the first week. In Tamil Nadu, Thuppakki raked in Rs 40 crore and above in the first six days and it continues to run to packed houses. It is also doing good business in neighbouring states such as Kerala and Andhra Pradesh,” informs trade analyst Trinath. The film, directed by AR Murugadoss, opened on Diwali, November 13, and hit over 1,000 screens worldwide.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Thuppakki collected Rs 1.18 crore in Britain, Rs 1.76 crore in the US and Rs 37.99 lakh in Australia, in its opening weekend.

The story is about a captain from the Indian army, played by Vijay, who is on a vacation in Mumbai and gets involved in a terrorist scheme, which turns out to be bigger than anticipated. The makers had to cut a few scenes from the film a few days after its release in Tamil Nadu, following concerns raised by members of the Muslim community who felt that certain scenes hurt their sentiments. “Some scenes were cut following the protest, but that hardly had any impact on the film’s run at the box office,” Trinath added.

Kajal Agarwal, Satyan, Mano Bala, Vidyut Jamwal and Jayaram feature in key roles in the film, which has music by Harris Jeyaraj, cinematography by Santosh Sivan and editing by Sreekar Prasad.

In the first week itself the film has minted 65 crores and is sure to cross 100 crores before the month end. It may end up number one in tamil films history.
Earlier vijay film velayudham, nanaban also did exceedingly well in collections.
Vijay ahs turned the homesitter into theatre goers and film industry is enjoying due to the power of vijay.
vijay has proved that big budget films will flop.
VIJAY HAS BEEN GIVING CONTINUOUS HITSsince kavalan despite heavy opposition. Now he has captured kerala also. Heis going strng in andhra and karnataka too.
great time for thesuperstar of vijay.

Thuppakki is a paisa vasul entertainer. Nice to see an actor having a great screen presence and vijay is spontaneously comfortable facing the camera. Fed up off seeing Hindi movies carrying Big stars with big egos and the story enevitably always happening in europe.
Great to see mumbai and our people in a movie. A Tamil movie. Atleast.

Vijay this is huge success for u. We are waiting to see your upcoming movie which we want different. So choose good script and good director. Better to avoid punch dialogues. For last year one hero had 3films as success. But now that hero fall down you are the only person in top currently in kollywood. Keep it up thalapathi….

Dear Friend, Don’t call him as Thalapathy. B’coz in cine field, Rajni is thalapathy; In politics Stalin is thalapathy. And one more thing, Don’t say that he is the only top hero. B’coz there are other top heroes who is leading Vijay.

I was not liked the film b’coz Vijay is continueing his acting as same. The film is hit-B’coz of A.R.Murugadoss, Santhosh Sivan, follow by the hero of the film. Others are waste.

Hi, Just because you dont like the way vijay act, he can not change ma. Because most like him. you may the few of the excemptions. So please do not expect vijay to change. What is vijay now is what all like. Murugadas is a great addition for vijays enhancement.
