The actor had been imprisoned for alleged domestic violence
Kannada film star Darshan, lodged in jail for over two weeks for allegedly assaulting and threatening to kill his wife Vijayalakshmi, has been granted conditional bail by the Karnataka High Court. Having heard the arguments by the defence and the prosecution, Judge B V Pinto granted bail to the actor upon furnishing a personal bond of Rs 25,000. The court asked the ‘Challenging Star’ and his wife to appear before it on October 13 to arrive at “a suitable conclusion” through negotiations so that the couple could have a “harmonious relationship”. The judge held that Darshan could not continue to be kept in jail as it would “demoralise” him and suggested that the actor focus on his movie career while also balancing his family life well. The prosecution had opposed the bail on grounds that Darshan had a history of assaulting his wife and causing her injuries. The bail comes at a good time for Darshan. His latest release Sarathy has been running to packed houses. This is the actor’s second straight hit after Gaja.
