Born on June 2, 1943 in Theni district of Tamil Nadu, Ilaiyaraaja is now a living legend in the musical world. The four time National award winner Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja, also fondly called as Raja Sir, started his musical career with 1976 film Annakili and has now went to  become the only musician to compose for more than 1000 films. Born Gnanadesikan, the maestro changed his name to Raaja. Later during the release of Annakili, his name was changed to Ilaiyaraaja.

The musical genius has given such fabulous melodies that his contemporaries and his fans gave him the title of Isaignani which means master of music. His musical arrangements with fusion of western classical elements to Indian classical elements has had a great influence on the music that we hear today. During the 80′s  Ilaiyaraaja was a force to reckon with in the music industry churning out one smash hit after the another. The haunting violin piece from the song is bound to stay with you for days. Anthi mazhai in Rajaparvai

Kanmani anbodu in Guna

Yet another song from Kamal Haasan movie, Kanmani anbodu kathalan has the Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja in prime form as he churns out such a soulful track for Guna. The song packed with monologues of Kamal Haasan combined with Raaja sir’s melodious tunes  is infectious from start to finish.
