Trust the ‘Ulaganayagan’ to grab the biggest and best movies across south India

The actor who cut his teeth playing lead roles in Kerala before returning to base in Kollywood, is back to where it all began for him several decades ago. Kamal Haasan has signed up to play the legendary King of Mysore, Tipu Sultan in a movie being touted as the most expensive ever in Mollywood. Gokulam Gopalan, the producer of the highly successful Pazhassi Raja, is the brain behind the venture that will highlight Tipu Sultan’s genius. Legend has it that the Mysore emperor was not only a fearless warrior who took on the British, but also a linguist and a patron of the arts. “So, when we thought of an actor who could personify these traits of the legendary king, none other than Kamal Haasan came to mind,” says John Paul, the man who has scripted the movie. Tentatively titled Tippuvum Unniarchayum, the movie brings together the stories of emperor Tipu and the lady warrior legend of Malabar, Unni Aarcha. More details of the movie are awaited and we are told that shooting will commence sometime later this year.
