The Tamil actor turns 36 today, May 25
It’s cake and candles time for Karthi Sivakumar today. Born on May 25, 1977, the 36-year-old actor is currently busy with two big projects All in All Azhagu Raja and Biriyani being directed by Venkat Prabhu.
A late starter in films, he began life as an engineer after having completed a master’s degree in New York. But movies had always been a passion. Not surprisingly, for his dad Sivakumar is one of Kollywood’s most respected actors and big brother Suriya is a top star.
Karthi also studied filmmaking and wanted to dabble in direction at some point. He got his break with Mani Ratnam assisting him on Aayitha Ezhuthu. His first acting offer came not long after when he featured in Ameer’s Paruthiveeran, winning several awards for best actor in his debut itself. He followed that up with hit films such as Paiyaa, co-starring Tamannaah.
It has been masala cinema all the way since then for Karthi, with films such as Siruthai, Saguni and Alex Pandian. The last two were disappointing and he’ll certainly be hoping for greater success with his upcoming films, both of which are lightweight subjects. But what Karthi is very serious about is the many good causes he espouses.
