Mani Ratnam ditches Mahesh Babu for Dulquar Salman?

Rumour has it that the ace director has shelved Mahesh Babu’s-Aishwariya Rai Bachchan starrer

It has been a difficult year for veteran director Mani Ratnam. After the debacle of Kadal in 2013, the filmmaker has been in the news for his coveted project in Telugu starring Mahesh Babu, Nagarjuna and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in lead role. The joy of fans, who were ecstatic with this star studded combination, was short lived as rumours made rounds that both Mahesh Babu and Nagarjuna have walked out of the project citing creative differences.

But later, in an interview, Aishwarya confirmed that the film with Raavan director is still on the cards. Now the latest we hear that the auteur has abandoned his comeback project to Tollywood with Mahesh Babu and has instead roped in Dulquar Salman for his next film. Rumour has it that the filmmaker is planning to make a romantic film with Mammootty’s son Dulquar in the lead. While many names are being considered for the female lead, a little birdie tells us that Bollywood’s latest sensation Alia Bhatt has been approached by Mani Ratnam.

This decision from Mr Ratnam comes as a shock to many, as experts believe that a Telugu film with big stars was the perfect platform for the director to strike gold after disastrous outing of Kadal at box office. Sources say that Mani Ratnam was apparently not happy with his script and so had decided to shelve the film with Mahesh Babu.

With no official confirmation from the filmmaker, the mystery surrounding his next film is still intact. Would Mani choose Dulquar Salman over Mahesh Babu? Waiting is all we can do to find out.
