Manju Warrier, Samyuktha return to movies

The two heroines will star opposite megastar Mammootty in a film

It has almost been a decade since two of Mollywood’s most desirable ladies took a hiatus from the silver screen. Both Manju Warrier and Samyuktha Varma left the scene when they were on top of their game in 1999 and 2002 respectively. Their respective husbands Dileep and Biju Menon too are accomplished actors, but both female actors have delivered performances which outshone their partners’.

While Manju won the National Film Award (Jury) for her performance in Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu, Samyuktha has taken home the Kerala State Award for Best Actress for two consecutive years in 1999 (Veendum ChilaVeettukaryangal) and 2000 (Madhuranomparakattu, Mazha, Swayamvarapandal). But soon after, both these stars settled into their own family lives leaving Mollywood open for the likes of Kavya Madhavan and Bhavana.

It has been a long time and, despite repeated fan requests and meaty offers, the actors never thought about making a comeback. They were happy being wives and mommies, but now they are set to return, and together. They will both be playing heroines to Malayalam megastar Mammootty in a film directed by superhit director Lal Jose. The film will be produced by Dileep’s banner, Grand Productions, and it will also star him and Biju in prominent roles.
