Tamil director Selva is an unhappy man right now. He feels YRF’s Ladies vs Ricky Bahl has copied scenes from his last film
Tamil director Selva is an angry man after watching Bollywood’s latest con flick Ladies vs Ricky Bahl starring Ranveer Singh and Ansuhka Sharma. The director, who is noted for films Amaravathi, Karna, Pooveli, Naanirunthal, Naan Avan Illai, feels that the Bollywood flick is based on the same premise – a playboy who cheats women – of his film, Naan Avan Illai . So he announced that he is going to drag Bollywood biggie Yash Raj Films to court over copyright issues.Filmmaker Selva elaborates, “I remade K Balachander’s classic Naan Avan Illai. Following the film’s success, I made a sequel to it. Without obtaining permission from us, Maneesh Sharma has made Ladies vs Ricky Bahl which has 75 percent of the scenes from both the films.” While Naan Avan Illai had Sneha, Malavika, Namitha, Keerthi Chawla and Jyothirmayi as heroines, its sequel had Lakshmi Rai, Hemamalini, Swetha Menon and Sangeetha as the con-man’s ladies. Meanwhile, Selva isn’t just happy going to court. He also plans to approach the Director’s Association over the issue. “The Bollywood film, which is written by Aditya Chopra, has been produced by Yash Raj Films. I am planning to sue all those concerned. A case will be filed in the court soon. Besides, a complaint will be registered in cinema bodies,” says the Tamil director.
