Naga, NTR Junior to star in ‘Gundamma’ remake

The young guns of Tollywood are bonding big time

Sources say that the Gen Next are now seeking to bring back the glory days of the industry when legends like NT Rama Rao and A Nageswara Rao were ruling the roost. Rumors are rife that Naga Chaitanya and NTR Junior are joining hands to remake the yesteryear classic Gundamma Katha in which their respective grandfathers ANR and NTR essayed key roles alongside other legends like Savitri, Jamuna, SV Ranga Rao and Suryakantham. That Naga and NTR Junior are good pals is well known, but it is quite courageous on their part to share screen space in an era where Telugu actors have shunned multi-starrers like plague. The Akkineni scion had recently waxed eloquent about the camaraderie between him, Cousin Rana Daggubatti and NTR Junior. “We talk about everything and chill out like normal friends,” he said. Both actors have stated separately that they would consider collaborating on a remake of Gundamma Katha, originally produced by veteran B. Nagi Reddy in 1962, it was the tale of a rich widow and her scheming ways. In the past, a remake was planned with Balakrishna and Nagarjuna in the lead roles, but the project never took off due to differences between the two star sons. Let’s just hope that the grandsons succeed where the sons failed!
