From being a waiter to becoming one of the most versatile actors in the industry, Nasser can look back at a memorable two decades in cinema

Nasser was born on March 5, 1958. Fifty-five and still going strong, he is currently working on nearly a dozen films and that’s an indication of just how much in demand he is in Kollywood, where he made his debut some two decades ago. So, there’s plenty to celebrate on his birthday today.

The versatile actor, who did a string of odd jobs, including being a waiter at the Taj Coromandel in Chennai before he made it in cinema, has gone on to establish himself as a fine character actor and seasoned villain in South Indian cinema.

Nasser’s significant early appearances include Nayagan, Roja and Thevar Magan, all hugely successful films. He’s also acted in Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films and also a clutch of Bollywood movies such as Nishabd and, more recently, Rowdy Rathore and David. Nasser has also directed movies such as Devathai and Maayan in Tamil. Currently, he’s working on Settai, Yaan and Endrendrum Punnagai, among other films.

Here’s wishing the accomplished actor a very happy birthday!
