It’s a battle between love stories set against two different backdrops at the box-office this week
Both movies, Neethane En Ponvasantham and Kumki have generated huge expectations for different reasons.
While Neethane En Ponvasantham (NEP) directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon has Jiiva and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in lead roles, Kumki directed by Prabu Solomon has Vikram Prabhu and Lakshmi Menon in the lead.
Set against an urban backdrop, NEP speaks about the relationship between a couple in different stages of their life. Both Jiiva and Samantha have appeared in different get-ups, from school students to grown up professionals. Ilaiyaraaja’s music is said to be one of the highlights of the movie. The advance booking to the weekend of the release is fully booked.
Kumki is a love story set in the deep jungles. Vikram Prabhu, grandson of thespian Sivaji Ganesan, plays a caretaker of elephants. Lakshmi Menon of Sundarapandian fame is his love interest. D Imman’s songs in Kumki are already making waves.
In Tollywood, Gautham Menon’s romantic drama Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu starring Samantha and Nani is releasing today. The movie was apparently simultaneously show with NEP. The Telugu flick Yamaho Yamaha is also slated to hit the theatres on December 14. Directed by Y Jitender, the movie has Sairam Shankar, Parvati Melton, Srihari and Sanjjanaa in lead roles.
Aneesh Upasana’s directorial debut Mollywood flick, Matinee is also set to hit the screens today. Maqbool Salmaan and Mythili are roped in to play the lead roles.
