He will compose tunes for Upendra-starrer Godfather
It’s official now. AR Rahman, who was recently in Bangalore, has confirmed that he is doing a Kannada film. At a press conference held at a posh resort, Rahman said he would be composing for Godfather, a Kannada remake of the Tamil film Varalaru that starred Ajith and Asin in the lead. The Kannada version will see Upendra playing three roles for the first time in his career.
Soundarya and Catherine are the heroines in the film, which has already completed its first schedule in a specially constructed set at Abbainaidu Studio.
Rahman has composed tunes in the other three south Indian languages, but stayed away from Kannada till now. In fact, fans of the music maestro in Sandalwood feel hurt because Rahman kept away from their industry for 18 years after he hit pay dirt with the Tamil classic Roja. He went on to carve a niche for himself in Bollywood and even entered Hollywood.
