Top stars of the Tamil film industry observed a one-day fast protesting against genocide in Sri Lanka

Top stars of Tamil cinema, including Superstar Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith, Suriya and Karthi took part in a one-day hunger protest organised by the Nadigar Sangam in Chennai on Tuesday, to express solidarity with the Sri Lankan Tamils.

However, none of the actors, except Nadigar Sangam president R Sarathkumar, was allowed to speak to avoid any unnecessary controversies.

In his address, Sarathkumar said action should be taken on the alleged atrocities against Tamils in the island nation. He said the Centre should pay heed to the resolutions passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly in this regard.

Vijay, who is in Australia shooting for Thalaivaa, sent a letter to the Sangam, expressing his inability to attend the protest.

Fans and general public thronged the fast venue to have a glimpse of their favourite stars. A stampede-like situation occurred when Rajini and Ajith arrived at the venue, the Nadigar Sangam premises at T Nagar.
