The South Indian dancer and actress was born on March 21, 1966
Shobana, a classical dancer par excellence and actor the age of 14, turns 47 today. And who can tell! For this Malayalam beauty is as ravishing as ever, performing on stage with an energy and vigour even younger artistes envy.
The actor, who made her debut in Malayalam in 1980, has carved a niche for herself, winning a national award for the 1993 film, Manichitrathazhu by Fasil. She’s also made a mark in other languages, earning critical acclaim for the Telugu flick Rudraveena in which she starred with Chiranjeevi and winning her second national award for Mitr, My Friend in Hindi. In Tamil, Shobana’s most remarkable performance has probably been in Thalapathy, Mani Ratnam’s classic starring Rajinikanth, Mammootty and Aravind Swamy.
Even at the peak of her film career, Shobana remained a passionate dancer, choreographing, performing and running her Bharatanatyam school, Kalarpana, in Chennai. She appeared in last year’s Kollywood film Poda Podi and is also part of the Kochadaiyaan cast.
Here’s wishing the lovely lady a very happy birthday.
