South box office: Will Madras and Jigarthanda’s delay benefit Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah?

Jai-Nazriya starrer might get a decent opening as other major releases have been postponed

This weekend was supposed to be jam packed at the box office with four films competing with one another for audience’s attention. But now what we have in hand is just two films – Aascar Ravichandran’s Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah and Vijay Antony’s Salim thanks to delay in release of Siddharth’s Jigarthanda and Karthi’s Madras.

Delay in big releases

While Siddharth’s Jigarthanda has been delayed time and again for reasons still unclear, Karthi’s action-drama Madras has become a victim of Censor Board delay as apparently the board is short of members to pass the films with appropriate certificates. Siddharth recently lost his patience with his film’s release being put off and voiced out his anger accusing the producer for not discussing with him or director before taking the decision. Many believe the Boys actor’s frustration was directed towards Dhanush, who apparently requested Jigarthanda‘s producer to put off the film’s release so that it does not affect his VIP which released last week.

Karthi’s Madras is speculated to hit screens on August 29 whereas fate of Siddarth’s Jigarthanda is still hanging in balance. If you jog your memory a little, Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan was also delayed twice, but it did not affect the film’s earnings since Rajini being superstar of Tamil cinema. The same cannot be expected for Jigarthanda as people are starting to lose interest in the film.

Releases This week

With Vijay Antony’s Salim having no bankable stars, the onus will be on Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah to entertain the audience. The film which deals with inter religion marriage with Jai and Nazriya Nazim in lead, is expected to get a decent opening. But Dhanush’s VIP may pose a threat to Jai-Nazriya starrer as Velai Illa Pattadhaari is running rock solid at box office. Will Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah cash in on delay in release of Siddharth’ Jigarthanda and Karthi’s Madras? Or will VIP continue to sweep away the box office collections?
